Medicare psychologist BerwickFees, rebates and NDIS, explained.
Seeing a Medicare psychologist can make support far more affordable, and cost should never be a mystery or stand between you and help. This page explains the ways you can fund your sessions at AusCare Psychology, so you can plan with confidence. If anything here is unclear, we are always happy to talk it through before you book.
Three ways to fund your care.
Medicare rebates with a Mental Health Care Plan
If you are dealing with a mental health concern, your GP may prepare a Mental Health Care Plan, which makes you eligible for a Medicare rebate on a set number of psychology sessions each calendar year. You pay the session fee and Medicare refunds part of it, so your out-of-pocket cost is the gap between the two. To use this option, book a longer appointment with your GP, ask about a Mental Health Care Plan and a referral to a psychologist, and bring both to your first session with us.
How to get a Mental Health Care PlanNDIS participants
We welcome NDIS participants whose plans include psychology. We work with self-managed and plan-managed participants — agency-managed (NDIA-managed) plans are not covered. Our NDIS psychology page explains what we offer and how to get started.
NDIS psychologyPrivate appointments
You do not need a referral or a plan to see a psychologist privately. Private appointments give you complete flexibility over how often you come and what you work on, and some private health funds offer a rebate on psychology through their extras cover, so it is worth checking with yours.
